Thing 7 - Interesting Tech

RSS should stand for 'Really Save my Sanity.' Things 8 & 9 will force me to organize the myriad library blogs and websites currently in my Favorites folder into an easily manageable Bloglines account.

Google Docs & Spreadsheets will have many library applications. For one ... SJPL's Adult Services Planning Teams can develop a spreadsheet listing community partners and allowing different branches to note their contacts, previous programming experience, and general comments about each organization.

Thing 6 - Flickr mashups

Talk about perfect timing! My mother's 95th birthday is coming up in April. There is nothing she likes better that displaying photos of her grandkids and nieces and nephews. Using the Calendar mashup I found on fd's Toys I'll be able to customize a calendar with family photos that she'll be able to enjoy throughout the year.

Thing 5 - Discover Flickr

Wow! Bubble fans have loaded pictures of bubbles of every kind, shape and form. Really high quality cameras were required to capture all this bubbly effervescence.

Thing 4 - Register your blog

Simple and easy ... only 19 Things to go.

Thing 3 - Set up you blog

Done! I selected the Tic Tac template and changed the color to blue. The Tic Tac shapes are the closest match to my 'bubble' theme. You just have to use your imagination and visualize square bubbles! I found the number of settings and Dashboard options to be rather overwhelming ... I accepted the default setting for most of them.

Thing 2 - Lifelong learning

'Beginning with the end in mind' is the easiest learning habit for me. I just have to be sure to remain open and not get too impatient and expect fast results. It has taken years of life experience to realize that many problems or setbacks are truly growth opportunities in disguise. I may or may not seek out technology as a tool depending on what the learning challenge is. I don't like to collect 'tools' that I'll only use once or a few times and that become instant clutter ... for example, the camcorder decorating a shelf in my garage. I do, however, love any web-based tool or resource ... they're absolutely current and they don't require any storage space beyond the 1 square foot surface of my laptop.

Thing 1-Find out about the program

The library world owes Helene Blower a huge 'thank-you' for developing these self-paced Learning 2.0 modules and generously offering them to libraries around the world. It's created a great opportunity for libraries to introduce their staffs to popular Web 2.0 features. I'm excited about the possibility of introducing RSS feeds and podcasts as features on the sjlibrary.org website.

Everything Changes

SJLearning 2.0 is such a wonderful opportunity for all library staff to discover and play with Web 2.0 features. I figure I'd better master Web 2.0 real soon because Web 3.0 applications are already being talked about in the literature. I'm always amazed at how fast technology and the world of the internet changes. That's why I selected technobubbles as my blog's name. New technologies are a lot like bubbles ... some burst very quickly, while others float around for a long time.
